Hattox Hall at The Old Globe in Balboa Park

Defining the Moment: Monologue Coaching offers you practical and useful tools for defining and expressing truth in each moment of your monologue. Our special guest, Professor Lamar Perry from the UC San Diego Department of Theatre and Dance, will work with you on defining the moments and preparing you for your next audition. Please bring one contemporary monologue (fully memorized, from a play you’ve read) for this unique coaching experience. Class size is limited, so register early! This class is intended for actors and performing artists age 18+.

Please note: The $25 registration fee covers administrative costs associated with this workshop. There are no refunds to your registration if you are unable to attend.

Lamar Perry

Lamar Perry (he/him/his) is a director, producer, and educator from Connecticut. He currently is an Assistant Professor in Directing at UC San Diego where he teaches Black Theatre History, Graduate & Undergraduate Directing, and Anti-Racism in theatre. Perry previously served as Associate Producer at the Tony-award winning Old Globe and prior to his tenure in San Diego he was the Producing Associate at the Classical Theatre of Harlem. Recent credits include:Thicker Than (Wagner New Play Festival), Animals Out of Paper (Chautauqua), and Mud Row (Detroit Public). Known nationally as a new play director, Perry has developed work at Roundabout, The Old Globe, Cygnet, Blindspot Collective/La Jolla Playhouse, Signature Theatre, Diversionary, Chautauqua, Penumbra, and the O’Neill. He is an alum of St. John’s University and the American Academy for Dramatic Arts.
