Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Cast Creatives Announcement

The Old Globe is pleased to announce the full cast and creative team for its 27th annual production of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Globe Resident Artist James Vásquez (The Old Globe’s Hair, Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. 2B) directs San Diego’s beloved holiday musical once again with Andrew Polec reprising his role as The Grinch. The production will run from November 6 to December 31, 2024, with the opening on Sunday, Nove. 10 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center in San Diego’s Balboa Park. Tickets are now on sale at www.TheOldGlobe.org, by phone at (619) 23-GLOBE (234-5623), and in person at The Old Globe’s Box Office in Balboa Park.

2025 Season Announcement

The Old Globe proudly announces its 2025 Season, which is packed with new musicals and plays, West Coast and San Diego premieres, and two of Shakespeare’s popular comedies. The season features two world premiere musical comedies, Regency Girls with book by Emmy Award-winning writers Jen Crittenden (“Seinfeld”) and Gabrielle Allan (“Scrubs”), music by three-time Emmy-nominated composer Curtis Moore (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), lyrics by two-time Tony and Grammy nominee Amanda Green (Bring It On: The Musical), and directed and choreographed by Josh Rhodes (Broadway’s Spamalot, The Old Globe’s Cabaret); and Huzzah! with book, music, and lyrics by Olivier Award winners and Tony Award nominees Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde, Mean Girls, The Old Globe’s Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical) and Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde, Heathers the Musical, Bat Boy), and directed by Lortel Award winner Annie Tippe (Off Broadway’s Octet). The thrilling lineup also has three world premiere plays: the Globe-commissioned, poignant and funny new work Empty Ride by San Diego Theatre Critics Circle winner Keiko Green (The Old Globe’s Exotic Deadly, Or the MSG Play) and directed by Sivan Battat (Playwrights Horizons' In the Amazon Warehouse Parking Lot); the heartwarming comedy House of India by MacDowell Colony fellow Deepak Kumar and directed by Drama Desk nominee Zi Alikhan (Primary Stage’s On That Day in Amsterdam, Pasadena Playhouse’s Sanctuary City); and the evocative and powerful play The Janeiad by Anna Ziegler (The Old Globe’s The Wanderers, The Last Match) and directed by Tyne Rafaeli (Second Stage’s Spain, Lincoln Center Theater’s The Coast Starlight).

Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express One-Week Extension

The Old Globe is pleased to announce that even before the first performance of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express, which is adapted for the stage by Tony Award–nominated playwright Ken Ludwig (Broadway’s Lend Me a Tenor, Crazy for You) and directed by Peter Amster (Asolo Repertory Theatre’s Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express, Indiana Repertory Theatre’s Sense and Sensibility), the run of this West Coast premiere has been extended for one week due to popular demand. The production begins performances on September 7 and will now play through October 13, 2024, with the official opening night on Thursday, September 12, on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center in San Diego’s Balboa Park. Tickets for the extension are now on sale.

The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program Henry VIII

The Old Globe is pleased to announce its final Shakespeare production of the season with Henry VIII, performed by students from The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program. Directed by Sam White, the limited engagement will play for 11 performances from November 16 to 24 in The Old Globe’s Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center in beautiful Balboa Park. Tickets go on sale to subscribers and donors on Friday, September 6 at 12:00 noon, and to the general public on Friday, September 13 at 12:00 noon.

A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story, Told by Jefferson Mays

The Old Globe announced today that it will present Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story, Told by Jefferson Mays, A Thrilling Solo Rendition of the Holiday Classic by Jefferson Mays, Susan Lyons, and Michael Arden. Globe audiences will experience the timeless tale of Ebenezer Scrooge brought to life by Tony Award winner Jefferson Mays (Broadway’s I Am My Own Wife, Broadway and The Old Globe’s A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder) and directed by the Globe’s Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein (The Old Globe’s Henry 6, Roundabout Theatre Company’s The Wanderers). Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story, Told by Jefferson Mays will play for 10 exclusive performances only, in the intimate Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center in San Diego’s Balboa Park. Performances begin December 12 and run to December 22, 2024, with the opening set for Friday, December 13. Subscriber and donor priority pre-sale for Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story, Told by Jefferson Mays starts September 6 at 12:00 noon, and single tickets for the general public will be available on September 18 at 12:00 noon online at www.TheOldGlobe.org, by phone at (619) 23-GLOBE (234-5623), and in person at The Old Globe’s Box Office in Balboa Park on September 20.
