SAN DIEGO (July 3, 2024) – The Old Globe is pleased to announce a fall full of Shakespeare with this year’s annual Globe for All Tour, bringing a production of As You Like It to communities across our region. Directed by Emil Weinstein (Globe for All Tour of The Comedy of Errors), this tour will feature a multitalented company of artists that will bring a stirring, free-admission production to various economically, geographically, and culturally diverse communities throughout San Diego County, and even south of the border in Tijuana, Mexico. For the first time in Globe for All history, the free Shakespeare tour has been expanded to four weeks. Performances start on Tuesday, October 29 and run through Sunday, November 24, 2024. A full list of venues, dates, and times will be announced at a later date.

“After a successful run last year of the reimagined, New Jersey–based rendition of our Globe for All production of The Comedy of Errors, we are excited to have Emil Weinstein returning to the director’s seat for our 2024 Globe for All Tour,” said Director of Arts Engagement Adena Varner. “This year, we have a touring production of As You Like It. Audiences throughout San Diego County and Tijuana will love this raucous comedy filled with music, magic, and a thrilling story of young love.”

Full casting and creative team for the Globe for All Tour of As You Like It will be announced at a later date. Bios and photos of all participants can be found at www.TheOldGlobe.org/Press-Room.

Although offered for free, registrations are required to attend the public performances in the community. Seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis and will depend on the venue’s capacity. If registration is full, guests are encouraged to show up and join the walk-in list when the doors open. Walk-in guests will be seated based on availability and can very often be accommodated. For more information, please visit www.TheOldGlobe.org/Globe-for-All.

Since the inception of the Globe for All Tour in 2014, approximately 16,000 community members have experienced a performance. These tours offer free-of-charge admission to shows in nontheatrical venues such as gymnasiums, cafeterias, shelters, senior centers, refugee community centers, military installations, and correctional facilities, and give audiences an intimate and compelling theatrical experience that fosters a shared sense of connection between performers and audiences. The majority of attendees are experiencing live theatre for the very first time.

Globe for All is supported by Lead Supporters Sheryl and Harvey White. Additional support is provided by The Kenneth T. and Eileen L. Norris Foundation, PNC Bank, and University of San Diego. Performances for veterans and military families are supported by Creative Forces Community Engagement Grants, part of the National Endowment for the Arts’ Creative Forces initiative, in partnership with Mid-America Arts Alliance. Financial support is provided by The City of San Diego. The Theodor and Audrey Geisel Fund provides leadership support for The Old Globe’s year-round activities.

If you have a community group or organization that effectively centers and serves a marginalized group in San Diego or Tijuana, and you would like to discuss hosting a performance, please email AEinfo@TheOldGlobe.org.

The Tony Award–winning The Old Globe is one of the country’s leading professional nonprofit regional theatres. Now in its 90th year, the Globe is San Diego’s flagship performing arts institution, and it serves a vibrant community by creating theatre that lives beyond the stage. Under the leadership of Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein and Audrey S. Geisel Managing Director Timothy J. Shields, The Old Globe produces a year-round season of 16 productions of classic, contemporary, and new works on its three Balboa Park stages, including its internationally renowned Shakespeare Festival. More than 250,000 people annually attend Globe productions and participate in the theatre’s artistic and arts engagement programs. Its nationally prominent Arts Engagement Department provides an array of participatory programs that make theatre matter to more people in neighborhoods throughout the region. Humanities programs at the Globe and around the city broaden the community’s understanding of theatre art in all its forms. The Globe also boasts a range of new play development programs with professional and community-based writers, as well as the renowned The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program. Numerous world premieres—such as 2014 Tony Award winner for Best Musical A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Bright Star, The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!—have been developed at The Old Globe and have gone on to highly successful runs on Broadway and at regional theatres across the country.
