Melinda Lopez’s powerful one-woman show Mala explores with empathy and humor the struggles facing caregivers who support loved ones through illnesses and end-of-life. These discussions focus on the idea of “supportive care,” a treatment approach that takes into account the patient’s psychological and social needs as well as the needs of their caregivers. Artists from the production, along with experts from City of Hope (a leading center for cancer research, treatment, and compassionate care), will discuss Mala in the context of how we can better support caregivers, what resources are available for caregivers, and how people can advocate for themselves and their loved ones to get the help they need.
