SAN DIEGO (June 27, 2024) The Old Globe is pleased to announce the full cast and creative team for Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. 2B. The play is written by Off-Broadway Alliance Award winner Kate Hamill (Guthrie Theater’s Emma, Off Broadway’s Sense and Sensibility - adaptation) and is directed by Globe Resident Artist and Craig Noel Award winner James Vásquez (The Old Globe’s Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and Hair ). Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. 2B plays at the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, from July 27 through August 25, 2024, with an official opening night performance on Thursday, August 1. Tickets are now on sale at www.TheOldGlobe.org.

Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. 2B is a fast-paced and wildly entertaining new play that reimagines the most iconic detective team of all time. In present-day Baker Street, steampunk hipster Shirley Holmes and her spunky new roommate Joan Watson become entangled in a series of cases all related to the same supervillain, who always seems to be one step ahead of them. This irreverent take on the beloved characters packs nonstop laughs into a rollicking murder mystery with a bold and modern lens.

“Kate Hamill is one of this country’s most produced playwrights, and we are thrilled to welcome her latest smash hit play to our stage,” said Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein. “Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson—Apt. 2B showcases what makes Hamill so popular. She reinvents Sherlock Holmes before our eyes, translating the iconic character to a new time, place, and gender, while injecting a bold and modern comic sensibility into the detective genre that Holmes always shapes so indelibly. The result is a highly enjoyable romp that’s clever, fun, and entirely surprising, especially in the hands of director James Vásquez, one of the Globe’s treasures. I can’t wait for San Diego audiences to meet this new duo: Holmes and Watson as you’ve never seen them!”

The cast for Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. 2B includes Jenn Harris as Irene Adler, Mrs. Hudson, Others (Off-Broadway’s Modern Orthodox – Lucille Lortel and Theatre World Awards, Academy Award-nominated film American Fiction); Nehal Joshi as Inspector Lestrade, Elliot Monk, Others (Broadway’s The Cottage, Broadway’s All My Sons); Ruibo Qian as Ms. Sherlock Holmes (The Old Globe’s The Merry Wives of Windsor and Dial M for Murder); and Natalie Woolams-Torres as Ms. Joan Watson (Off-Broadway’s The Fears, Off-Broadway’s Tiny Beautiful Things).

Also, joining Hamill and Vásquez as part of the creative team for the Globe’s production of Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson – Apt. 2B are Sean Fanning (Scenic Design), Shirley Pierson (Costume Design), Amanda Zieve (Lighting Design), Melanie Chen Cole (Sound Design), Caparelliotis Casting (Casting), and Marie Jahelka (Production Stage Manager).
