As You Like It

October 29 – November 24, 2024

The Old Globe is pleased to announce a fall full of Shakespeare with this year’s annual Globe for All Tour, bringing a production of As You Like It to communities across our region. Directed by Emil Weinstein, this tour will feature a multitalented company of artists that will bring a stirring, free-admission production to various economically, geographically, and culturally diverse communities throughout San Diego County, and even south of the border in Tijuana, Mexico. For the first time in Globe for All history, the free Shakespeare tour has been expanded to four weeks. Performances start on Tuesday, October 29 and run through Sunday, November 24, 2024.

All public performances are free and open to the public. Seating is first-come-first-served, and there is rarely a shortage of space. At many locations, a free catered meal is offered before the show. We encourage you to come 30 minutes before showtime to engage in a craft activity or free community meal when applicable.

More on As You Like It

Banished from the court by her distrustful uncle, the Duke, Rosalind and her cousin Celia journey to the magical Forest of Arden to escape from their world of oppression. Far from the confines of court life, the duo encounter the dashing Orlando and the follies of young romance ensue. Inspired by the beautiful and storied history of San Diego, Shakespeare’s rollicking romantic comedy comes to life with color and music to weave a charming tale of mistaken identity, self-exploration, and the endearing pursuit of love.

Since the inception of the Globe for All Tour in 2014, approximately 16,000 community members have experienced a performance. These tours offer free-of-charge admission to shows in nontheatrical venues such as gymnasiums, cafeterias, shelters, senior centers, refugee community centers, military installations, and correctional facilities, and give audiences an intimate and compelling theatrical experience that fosters a shared sense of connection between performers and audiences. The majority of attendees are experiencing live theatre for the very first time.

What is Globe for All?

The Old Globe tours a professional theatre production around community partners in San Diego and Tijuana for free performances, workshops, talkbacks, and catered meals. The fall tour is a three-week Shakespeare tour designed and directed for the road. The spring tour is a one-week tour of a show from our mainstage that is adapted for travel. Since the program’s inception in 2014, approximately 15,900 community members have experienced a Globe for All Tour.

Performed free of charge in non-theatrical venues such as gymnasiums, cafeterias, shelters, senior centers, refugee community centers, military installations, and correctional facilities, these productions give audiences an intimate and compelling theatrical experience that fosters a shared sense of connection between performers and audiences. The majority of attendees face barriers to accessing professional performing arts and often experience live theatre for the very first time.

If you have a community group or organization that effectively centers and serves a marginalized group in San Diego or Tijuana and you would like to discuss hosting a performance, or any questions about reservations, seats, or specific venur information, please email AEinfo@theoldglobe.org or call our Box Office at 619-234-5623.
