Mexican Independence Day Celebration

Madame Ur y Sus Hombres is a fine rarity originating from Tijuana. This group is an active model of an artistic scene that is constantly in mutation. They possess a lineage that is difficult to trace, which results in an emotional and exciting mix of alternative rock, pseudo-chanson, jazz, and power ballad. Since the year 2000, they have exceled with their timeless sound and intense stage presence. Evolving as a cult project, they have found a way to grow independently and give this music an essence of theatricality, melodrama, distortion, and cabaret. Featuring Azzul Monraz (voice and lyrics), Joel Castillo (keyboard and guitar), and Toto Zúñiga (bass), they work onstage as a trio, a duet, or even a band accompanied by an orchestra. Madame Ur is Azzul’s alter ego who, for the most recent material, embodies a black-cat woman with elegant animal mannerisms with a standout hand-knot veil against her face. Along these last 10 years, and working independently, they have produced the EP Men & Pearl Necklaces, the album Animal Man, and the EP Better Day. Their collaborations include Black Needle Noisedel, producer of John Fryer, with the song titled “La Diosa y el Hombre” (“The Goddess and the Man”); the Cirque du Soleil cast recording Luzia with the Tijuana-based Soleily Nortec Collective; bostich + fusible, creating the song “Flores en el Desierto” (“Flowers in the Desert”); and the album homage to Chavela Vargas entitled La Chamana with the song “Mundo Raro” (“Weird World”).
