Globe to Go lessons are adapted from School in the Park and Theatre Design Studio.

School in the Park, funded by Price Philanthropies, blends formal and informal learning by utilizing the rich resources of museums and educational institutions in Balboa Park. The program is designed with a standards-based curriculum to integrate what is learned at school with authentic learning connections from the Park institutions. During School in the Park at The Old Globe, 5th graders from Rosa Parks Elementary School and 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from Wilson Middle School in San Diego discover why theatre matters. Students explore the world of theatre and make connections to their own stories and their own communities through activities focusing on discovery, creativity and authentic learning. Theatre Design Studio began as a pilot program in 2020 with partnering schools in collaboration with The Old Globe’s Production and Arts Engagement Departments. Theatre Design Studio is an intensive online program that looks at the design components of theatre. Students attend online lectures and participate in group activities that will lead to a final project based on each week’s focus. Last year, TDS teachers included members of The Old Globe Production Department and professional theatre designers from around the country. For more information about this program, click here.
